Today I finally finished a simple cotton tank that I've been knitting for months, on and off. You are so right when you say summer tops in summer weight yarn is a LOT of knitting! I am thrilled with the finished piece though, and once it's been washed and blocked, it's going to be perfect for the last warmth of summer. I no longer worry about hand knits having to be perfect. If there's a mistake, it's precisely because it's handknit and I'm not perfect. Love that Oolong tank.

Thanks for your post. Awesome job with the Oolong tank! I knit one too!

I agree with the morale killer of perfectionism - so many examples of how that is not helpful (I could go on and on about this after watching my daughter navigate the college application process). In that setting, "good enough" was not "good enough" and it's so unrealistic for the rest of life.

In relation to knitting, one thing that occurs to me from your post is slowing down and not trying to get to the end (my ravelry knitting challenge! why did I set that so high??) and instead being more attentive as I knit so I can get "pretty good" if not perfect, for something that I hope to wear.

For me, perfectionism has been the mindset that kept me from doing things. Now that I am allowing myself to fail, I'm trying more new things.

I love this. I have this variety of perfectionism around drawing. I LOVE drawing but just hate how what comes out on the paper isn’t what I “see” in my head. Maybe I can give this up, too? And just try.
