I love all of this. I have some WIPs (including a pattern I'm really excited about but not quite ready to write) that have been taking a break, and it's hard not to feel guilty about them for some reason. I love that you finished your sweater pattern when (and because) it was right for you.

And I love your take on test knitting. I am still a very new designer and have not technically made any money on my patterns, so I was really grateful to have found anyone willing to test for me with no compensation other than the finished pattern, but I want to do my best to honour my tester's time and energy as well as I can in the future, and I appreciate you sharing your experience here.

I have many WIPs started and stalled for many reasons. I, too, have ACES I am finally getting therapy to help me resolve, 52 years on. The journey of the sweater reminds me that perhaps my WIPs can one day be restarted too.

As I think about all the works in progress in my craft closet, it’s OK to let go of some of them and start something new. Your yarn colors are gorgeous!

Love the journey of this sweater how you’re sharing. I also like the way you’re handling the test knit. Good luck!

I'm deeply touched by your words, thoughts and actions, Anne. I learn a lot from the way you reflect upon things. On another note, my first adult garment design has taken excruciatingly long time to publish too, with all the background work, courses and trials and errors. But it seems like a worthwhile effort. There is some honest quality about handmade garments and every little effort made towards it counts. Blossom is a beautiful sweater and I wish the very best for it.

This essay hit me (and hugged me) in the soul. Thank you 💕 I’m SO excited to wear my Blossom and tell everyone where to get the pattern, it remains one of my favourite tests to date!

I’m very moved by your honest reflection and listing of ALL the horrors we were living through - and that too many were dying because of. I particularly appreciate your reminder that our knitting isn’t a moral issue. We can do it, or not; finish a project, or not. Let’s let our making be succor and sustenance and a source of healing and support for each of us.

I can’t wait to take photos in this garment with you!! We gonna look so cute!!!

Also I find when you let thing sit for a while when you come back with fresh eyes you usually make something better in the end.

Thank you. I've been feeling the curse of WIPs that have accumulated and stalled across the years (yes, years 🤦‍♀️) and needed the reassurance that... It's ok.

I think we're still coming to terms with, and will be for a long time, the effects of the most constrained and devastating months of the pandemic (March 2020-May 2022 for me).
