Congratulations on starting grad school! That sounds wonderful and I admire you for really diving (back?) into the academic life. You will definitely be an asset to your program as someone with life experience! I did go to grad school as a younger person, and I remember the older-than-me students in my program - they were really focused, had such a better understanding if why they were there, and I'm sure that helped them succeed. Also, such a great example to set that you don't have to go to grad school when you're in your 20s, and that career shifts and evolution are good for us!

I started grad school in my 30’s when my children were 5, 7, and 9. What I learned is my life experiences made me much smarter than I was at 21. My drive to succeed was stronger than it had ever been. Younger students in my classes claimed I had it easier than they did because I didn’t have the distraction of parties, dating, etc. because 3 children require no attention? My knitting was there for all of it. My knitting got me through 30 years of seminars, faculty meetings, presentations….and it helped me pay attention. You’ve got this! Bring your knitting!!

This whole thing resonates massively with me. (I was desperately hoping you'd let us in on what program you're pursuing! I want to live this vicariously. ) I went back to university in my 30s, and I just loved it. I dropped out when my daughter was born, when I was 35, and always wanted to go back for a PhD. I will definitely be wanting to hear all the stories about this exciting time!

Congrats! I went to grad school in my 40s and was the old lady of my cohort. Turns out that everyone had wisdom to impart, and I made some amazing friends. Wishing you all the best as you start down this road!

I have to remember to keep a simpler project ready in a go bag for appointments. It makes such a difference.

Good for you, chasing your dreams, staring anxiety and fear in the face and saying “not today, I’m not having it”

How exciting! I'm so happy for you. I think that everyone is rusty at interacting with each other. I'm sure you're going to be fine, and you've already fallen into such good company. The sweater looks fantastic, and I'm looking forward to a new yarn like I don't have enough yarn...

I went back to college in my forties, the other students were younger than my kids. It was fun! I’m a shy person too, but I treasure the memory of those years

Congratulations on going back to grad school, and good luck! I am beyond impressed - I am the same age as you (literally), and I don't know if I could do it. I can relate to the way knitting helps with feelings and just keeps us grounded. Beautiful projects on your needles!

Your knitting is beautiful, as is the yarn. I’ve been wrapped up in too many family things and house projects for the past 6 years but keep feeling the pull to knit constantly. I will get back to it.

Good luck on your graduate program. It takes a lot to go back to school but it’s also a great experience. I went back and completed my BS in 2014, at the age of 53!
