Other than sweaters for my daughter when she was a toddler (she’s in her 30s now!), I’m new to sweater knitting.
I made a cardigan for my husband, and while he loves it, there were modifications I knew I should make but didn’t know how. It fits around his shoulders and chest, but his abdomen is larger than his chest. He didn’t want to wear it buttoned, so it doesn’t bother him.
But I would like to make him another one and figure out increases after the armhole shaping. The pattern is top-down seamless, so I know it could be done.
I have a cardigan I started for me last September that I put aside for Christmas knits and to finish his. Now I’m once again in Christmas gifts, but I plan to frog the cardigan and start over. That’s huge for me. I usually don’t want to rip out—I push on and hope. But that doesn’t always work.
And looking forward to your election posts. I’m hopeful and scared. I keep repeating “We’re not going back.”
Thanks for sharing your sweater stories! And, I am right here with you on all of it. (When you're ready to plan mods for your husband's cardigan, LMK and I'm happy to help you plan them out! Office hours are always open!)
Such a great post! I have knit one sweater and it fits me almost perfectly. I wear it all the time and I'm so happy that I got advice before knitting from my local knitting shop mavens. They helped me with the yarn choices. I also picked a pattern that wasn't outside my skill level. These are some easy tips that go a long way I think. I'd love to be more experienced and have deeper knowledge about swaeter knitting such that I could pickup a pattern and alter it, but also I'm okay with relying on experts for help because while I love knitting, I have prioritized other areas of my life at the moment.
Loved this! You are so right about how much there is to sweater knitting. I am in the process of understanding my own preferences and it is deeply satisfying. I am using your Targhee Sock and Worsted currently in two projects and I appreciate the work you put in to understand and test your yarns. Loving every bit of my knits.
Oh this resonated is much. I'm knitting sweaters at the moment and have recently finished three. Two of them I'm happy with, but the third is disappointing. It fit perfectly when finished, but after blocking became droopy and huge. It's been a total mystery to me how I might have avoided that.

Sweet! It’ll be a few months, but I’d love the help. Thank you!

I know that lots of folks get the droopy and/or growing after blocking problem. I continue to ponder solutions!
It’s as if the wool just relaxes too much. Maybe some wool is just not suitable for blocking….
Love this idea!! Thank you! 💙
loved the video! never thought to try out different armholes at the same time. I so enjoy a compare and contrast. it really clears my mind. thanks!
Really looking forward to the virtual retreat. I need it badly!
