Thank you for addressing this - I've seen and admired so many patterns on instagram (Northern European primarily) but balked at the cost of two pricey yarns for an already pricey sweater...
Such a great post. I was really resistant to the idea at first. I'm not a fan of mohair in general as it makes me sneeze. But I knit a Love Note sweater recently with a strand of suri silk alpaca alongside the fingering weight yarn and it was an absolute revelation. I love the fabric and will definitely be knitting more
Thanks for the insights on the durability! It is something I never thought about, especially since the mohair is so delicate looking. I found a different pattern for a beanie with the mohair in combination with fingering and I was amazed at how luxurious it looks.
It’s good to know about the structural qualities of the two together. I’ve seen so many patterned lately that use two strands, and I shrugged it off as the latest knitting thing.
But maybe what goes around comes around. I have worsted and mohair that was supposed to be knitted together from the 90s??? I never made it because it would probably be too warm and I wasn’t sure I liked mohair. But I’ve moved that *%#|* yarn many times over 4 states. It’s not moth eaten nor did the mice get it when they got my husband’s quilt fabric. I should probably do something with it other than move it.
I so want to make a Uniform Cardigan. The pattern I have includes fingering and many option—I wonder I should get the one in Ravelry and compare. Support the designer.
Okay I always write too much. But I’m recovering from tendinitis and not knitting right now. I’ll save the money I’m not spending on yarn this month for some of yours later, and I will make that Uniform Cardigan.
Brilliant! 🌟 My hedonistic Taurus moon, knitting math geek, and frugal ancestors are all cheering this news!!! I’m knitting with your mohair/silk in Avonlea Autumn right now — paired with another dyer’s merino/yak/silk — and the fabric is pure heaven. How wonderful to know that I’m also splurging at about my usual rate. 🌷🌻🌿

I never knew about mohair adding durability. Fascinating!
I love the look and understand the durability but mohair makes me itch. Are there alternatives?

I also like that adds a little bit more structure and stability because it doesn’t grow the same way stretchier yarns can!
Absolutely. I knit a Love Note sweater like this and even though it's at a loose gauge it holds it's shape really well.
