Thanks for sharing how you play with sizing—so simple and I need simple!

Hi Anne, thank you for this thoughtful post. I completely agree with you about knitting the fabric you like as opposed to a specified gauge. Every yarn has its own characteristics and we have our own preferences. Knowing how to adjust accordingly is a knitting super power! Knitting is just so awesome!

Hi Anne, thank you for your fantastic thoughts on cardigans, and bodies. 4” of ease at FULL bust…lightbulb moment for me…

Two questions—may i ask what was the actual gauge of the pink sweater you knit (ok, the sport/mohair one too) I find that I always like both my fingering weight sweaters and my “carry a strand of kid silk mohair” knit at a tighter gauge than the designer recommends.

And…will you be offering the house sock blend again in the future?

Thank you so much for taking the the to write these newsletters!

Thanks for your response! I said “House” but meant “Winter”…

Ahhh, Winter Sock will be making one last appearance before I discontinue it. Next update, and I may even just do a mini-update next week. (I have 20 skeins dyed, packed in these cute little palette bundles and waiting for photos.)

The pink sweater is 22 sts to 4 inches. That particular yarn, although fingering weight, really fluffs up with blocking. The sport/mohair sweater is 17 sts to 4 inches. I completely agree with you about liking my sweaters at a certain gauge. Mine might not be yours, but I have knit enough sweaters to know what fabric I like. 😉

House Sock is now named Targhee Sock just to give it a bit more description. I will be offering it soon! I have a small amount that will be going up in the next update (soon ish?).

I’m so glad you are enjoying the Sunday letters! I’m really enjoying writing them!

This is the second time I have looked, and I just don't see how you can purchase the cardigan pattern on Ravelry. All I see is that the pattern is from an out-of-print book. Can you help?

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. I saw the individual listings on Ravelry and just assumed they were for sale as standalone but they are not. This version, with fewer options, is available: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/uniform-build-your-own-cardigan

I’m going to look and see if there is a source for the book secondhand and will amend the letter. Thanks for pointing this out. What a bummer!

I'm not completely sure, but it looks like the "Knit" half of UNIFORM Knit & Sew might be available for purchase directly from the Making website as a PDF (same as the original, and with more sizes!). https://makingzine.com/products/madder-uniform-knit-e-book

I especially love your Uniform No. 3. The color and fluffiness look perfect for fall!

Thank you! For the compliment and the link. I’ll edit it in. Also, doh, to not checking the designer’s site first.

I loved reading about your same sweater pattern different weights and looks. Especially about your 90-10 formula. Math is not something I’m great at and I never know how to take a pattern and change the yarn weight and pick the right size. I always have to do and see!

I’m so glad you liked this piece! My little formula doesn’t always hold up for BIG adjustments, like taking a worsted weight pattern and substituting fingering weight, but for small tweaks, like sport to fingering, it’s always worked well for me!
