Welcome!
This newsletter is a peek at my creative practice of knitting, dyeing yarn, and making my own clothes—and an encouragement to center equity and well-being.
Hello fellow maker!
Welcome to my newsletter! I'm Anne, a San Francisco maker, artist, knitter and believer in the common good. I create patterns for knitwear, hand-dye yarn, and make my own clothes.
My newsletter is a peek into my creative practice and yarn business, Little Skein, and how I use knitting, sewing and hand-making to slow down, counterbalance consumer culture, and center equity.
I’ve titled my newsletter Nourishing Things because it best reflects what you’ll see here:
what it's like running a hand-dyed yarn business
how I’m doing towards my goal of creating a fully handmade wardrobe
how to support our well-being in a world that commodifies our attention and pushes so many folks to the margins
I hope my newsletter will become a conversation between you, me, and all of the other subscribers. Please click the ❤️ at the bottom of posts that resonate for you, or comment and share your own story or thoughts. Seeing conversation start to bubble in this space gives me so much joy.
I am so glad you’re here.
Some housekeeping…
I have three “categories” to my newsletter, and you can control which ones you receive.
Nourishing Things is a reflective mini-essay about why making things by hand matters so much. I send it twice a month on Sundays.
Shop updates is about the yarn and kits in my shop. I send it every Friday.
Anne loves books is about my book club, which I run with a friend and is hosted on Patreon. We read diverse kids books and we’d love for you to join us! This one is sent occasionally.
You can control which newsletters you receive (this is one of my favorite Substack features). Here’s how:
Go to your Settings page
Scroll down to Subscriptions, and click on “Nourishing Things”
In the middle of the page, under “Notifications,” tick or untick the boxes next to topics you want to receive or skip.
You can read all of my older newsletters in the archives.
If you ever want to unsubscribe, just scroll to the bottom of any email you receive from me and click Unsubscribe. A new window will open and you should select “Turn off emails.” Or, go to Settings and untick all the boxes under Subscriptions/“Anne is Making”
I work hard to make my newsletters relevant and useful. If, at any time, they are no longer useful to you, it’s perfectly okay to unsubscribe. I promise I’ll continue to think kindly of you.
