Now in the shop: your perfect winter knitting kit
It's squishy, it's full of delight, it's a gift for ✨you✨
This deep winter seasonal kit for knitters is absolutely, positively the gift you want to give yourself this year.
It is chock full of thoughtful details and consumable items that will make your life sweeter and make you feel absolutely cared for.
The kit will make the cowl pictured above, Birch Path, along with a host of handmade deep winter items to care for your most important knitting tools: your hands and your spirit.
The kit includes:
2 skeins of my hand-dyed bulky yarn and the Birch Path cowl pattern (PDF form)
An 8 oz. (that’s the big size) hand-poured scented candle that smells like Fraser Fir trees and soft peppermint candy
Hand scrub (with sugar and citrus and peppermint essential oils) to give your hands a bit of extra care, given harsher winter conditions
Muscle rub with warming herbal remedies (Arnica and St. John’s Wort); whether you put stock in herbal remedies or not, this balm just plain feels good when you rub it onto wrists or sore finger joints
Handmade stitch markers and progress marker
and a few more little treats to eat and enjoy
Seriously, this kit is just so precious and so lovely that I’ve made one for myself and will be knitting this cowl and soothing my own hands with citrus and peppermint, right along with you.
Let’s talk orders and pre-orders …
One of the hard parts of a very small, one-person knitting business is that I never know how popular something is going to be. In order for my business to be viable financially, I can only invest so much in inventory. And, I also try to resist hustle culture that tells me to push my making capacity beyond what’s good for my body and brain.
Here’s how I strike the balance:
I have made 20 kits in advance because I’m pretty sure at least 20 of you will want the full kit-and-caboodle! Everything is made, labeled, and I have cleared my Saturday morning to pack kits and take them to the post office. If you select Priority Mail shipping, they should arrive to you before Christmas (if this is important to you).
As individual colorways sell out, I will offer that colorway as a pre-order, and I will so happily make your kit for you in January (I’ll start making and shipping things just after my own holiday break and orders will ship on a rolling basis between mid-January and early February).
I hope all of you would like one of these kits because I would love to make one for you.
A huge amount of thought and design work goes into each kit, and part of having a sustainable business means that I can sell not only what I’ve made in advance but also a good number via preorder. Doing things this way also says: there’s enough for everyone. There’s no false scarcity, and there’s no need to set an alarm or rush to buy as soon as you open this email. (Although if you enjoy the dopamine rush of doing that, I’m good with this too! I also like the dopamine rush of seeing your order come in!)
There’s room for all of us.
Over the next two weeks while the pre-order period is open, I’ll be sending out a few extra newsletters to spotlight the Birch Path cowl pattern and the yarn itself (because I’m also offering pre-orders for individual skeins of this squishy new bulky weight yarn.)
If you’d like to hang around for all of these, yay! I’m going be sharing some fun stories with you!
On the other hand, if you’d like to opt out of these emails, for any reason, here’s how to do it:
Go to your account page here and untoggle the switch for “Shop updates.”
There’s room for all of us, here, to curate exactly the supportive spaces we need.
I, too, love your pre-order approach to “enough for everyone”.
The kit is a luxurious treasure-trove!
Unfortunately, not in my budget, especially as I have to convert Canadian dollars.
This looks like a wonderful kit! So thoughtful. My budget is used up for December, but I’ll be seeing if I can fit it in in January!
